Though the college did not have a building of its own at the beginning, Dhaka Dental College and Hospital (DDCH) is now the largest dental educational institution in modern Bangladesh. It was the first dental school of East Pakistan, established in August, 1961. There were total 6 students in first batch. It is the only government dental college in Bangladesh. 200-bed hospital situated at Mirpur 14, Dhaka.
Every year after passing Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) top applicants from all over the country sit for the medical-dental college entrance examination. The top 100 students get the opportunity to study in Dhaka Dental College. Different batches of Dhaka Dental College are named with the prefix D, as for example batch D-54 which is the latest batch in DDC arena.
In order to 5 years B.D.S course (under Dhaka University) MS course is included. Under Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) FCPS course is also included.
In the 8 acres (3.2 ha) hospital area there are administration building, academic building, auditorium, two lecture gallery, one hospital building, one ladies hostel, boy's hostel, staff colony, teachers colony, masque and Shaheed minar. Another boy's hostel is situated in Sobhanbag, Dhaka.
